about

Johnny Goddard became an officer for a town in Colorado as soon as he was 18 years old. By the age of 22, he was a deputy - a proper man of the law. He had done nothing but practice his aim from the time he was a child with every intention of becoming an officer and stopping criminals. One night, while holding down the fort alone, he was notified of suspicious activity in a nearby clearing. What he found would change his life forever.

He found 3 men in white hoods hanging a black man and a young black girl by torchlight. Before them was a hysterical black boy no older than 10. He looked on in horror as the life left the two bodies and the men mocked the boy as he cried. He confronted the men with intent to arrest and demanded they remove their masks. To his shock, they removed their hoods to reveal that it was two of his fellow officers and his own sheriff - men he had respected for 4 long years.

The men made it clear that he would either swear his silence or be thrown in jail. Nobody would believe his word or the word of a black witness over theirs. He refused and what followed was a firefight. Johnny shot and killed his 2 best friends and fatally wounded the Sheriff. The boy explained that his name was Randolph Freeman and that he had nowhere to go. Johnny told him that the two of them were outlaws now whether they liked it or not because nobody was going to believe either of them. He told "Randy" that he would take him in and protect him, but that being an outlaw meant killing, and he would have to prove he was ready.

He handed Randy his hunting knife and told him to finish the Sheriff. Randy obliged and stabbed the dying Sheriff in the throat. The two left under cover of night. That night Johnny Goddard turned his back on everything he knew - a Lawman became an Outlaw. The events of that night earned him the name "Godhand". The locals said to have shot the three men down, he must have had the hand of God.

A few years prior, a young man named Eli Church was travelling Texas selling snake oil and other miracle curatives. He had been selling for 9 years until he sold a bottle to a man dying of Tuberculosis. The man died horribly 3 months later and remarked on his deathbed that he wished he had taken something for the pain, but felt the cure he bought from Eli would surely work if he just gave it time. The locals found Eli and ran him out of town - disgracing his name. There wasn't a town in Texas that wouldn't turn him away from a mile off as soon as they saw him coming.

At the age of 24 and with nowhere else to turn, Eli became a bandit with his best friend Bill. The two of them robbed stagecoaches off and on throughout Texas and Louisiana for 2 years until one day that changed Eli's life forever. The two, down on their luck, went to rob a coach as usual. One of the passengers was a preacher before going into banking. No matter how Eli beat him, the man would only respond by quoting the bible. Bill became nervous because the robbery was taking too long. He bailed, leaving Eli to handle it himself.

The man's insistence for Eli to think about what he was doing struck a nerve with Eli. His pride flared and he continued to beat the man well after he knew the law was on their way. The man began to talk Eli down. He first asked for his name. Eli, for reasons unknown to himself, felt obliged to answer. The man told him that Eli was another name for God and that his name being Eli Church was a sign that he was to become a man of God. He urged Eli to turn over a new leaf until Eli broke down. Eli repented of his sins and swore that once he served his time, he would not only become a born again man of God, but a man of the law.

After he served his time for assault and battery and attempted theft, Eli kept his word. He began attending Church every Sunday and became an officer in the law enforcement department of the very town in Texas that he committed his crime in - his way of making amends to the people. At the age of 27 - an Outlaw became a Lawman. Within 3 years, Eli was the Sheriff of his town.

Nearly a decade later, the two cross paths - each the mirror image of the other. What follows is a game of cat and mouse for the ages.
